Warwick City Councilman Ed Ladouceur was so impressed with the Warwick Neck student chorus, following their performance at the mayoral inauguration on January 2, 2023, that he hoped they could start City Council meetings. Traditionally, all City Council meetings are opened with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. In response, he spoke with his colleagues on the council to get their thoughts and the members agreed.
Ladouceur then reached out to Warwick Neck Principal, Frank Galligan, along with the school's music teacher and choral director, Kristy Procaccianti, in the Spring of 2023 to see what the likelihood was of having the kids recorded for regular use at city meetings. Galligan and Procaccianti spoke with the students and shortly thereafter the kids found themselves rehearsing and singing for the city's audio recording.
The first City Council meeting to open with the recording of the Star Spangled Banner by Warwick Neck School students will be on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 7 PM. The recording will be played at the start of each subsequent monthly City Council meeting moving forward.
Meetings can be attended both in-person at the Council Chambers in City Hall (3275 Post Road, Warwick) or viewed online. For more information about the Warwick City Council, please visit it online here.
In response to this invitation, Mr. Galligan extended his thanks - on behalf of the school - to Councilman Ladouceur and the entire City Council for their ongoing support and appreciation of the Warwick Neck School community.
